Week Four Gelli Print Journal Page: Lady of Shalot

In this post, I'm playing catch-up.  We had a family reunion over the July 4th weekend so I was away from my craft room for a week. Then I took a trip to visit a cousin who had a stroke.

I'm remaining consistent with my attempts to learn the Gelli Plate, using the color prompts each week from Summer of Color5.  Also continuing the 8x8" journal page format.

For Week 4, Kristin challenged us to use 2 reds and a metallic as seen on her blog HERE.  I immediately thought of something regal looking (such as velvet drapes) and a gold crown.

My three prints:

You'll note the brick red on the left has a totally different hue than when I placed the bright red on top of it (top middle) or when I mixed the two together (center front).  The center front actually started out as my "sop up" page but quickly became the journal page choice for my concept.  It reminded me of drapes parting to reveal a spotlight on a crown.   The metallic gold has a tremendous shimmer which was hard to capture on this very gloomy day.

Here is one of the prints used as a journal page:

Materials Used:
Gelli Plate and Brayer
8x8 heavy paper
Plaid Apple Barrel Bright Red acrylic paint
Hand Maid Modern satin acrylic paint;  Brick, metallic 20K Gold (found at Target)
rubber shelf liner to leave imprint on Gelli Plate
STAMPlorations ARTplorations Foiled and Foiled Again stencils

Crown rubber stamp--no brand name on wood block;
Dew Drop Brilliance Galaxy Gold ink pad
Ranger Super Find Detail Gold embossing powder
Wendy Vecchi Studio 490 Art Fit For a Queen she didn't ask to be Queen, but the crown was a perfect fit
Tim Holtz Sizzix Alterations die: Ornate Crosses
DCWV metallic mat paper covered with 20K Gold paint

When I went outside to take a photo of my page, the sun was peeking out from the clouds, and the camera took this image:

I love how the sun shines on Lady of Shalot and the crown and cross and how the shadows play with the stencilled background.  The scene was just as I pictured it in my head when I looked at the original Gelli print.

My UPA article on Using Die Cuts

To Die For is our July theme at Unruly PaperArts Blogozine.  This month we're featuring articles using dies and punches.  My article is published on July 3 HERE.

I have a plethora of die cuts so I decided to share what I know about using them.  Please visit UPA to read my article and leave me some love!

Here is one of the things I made using a die cut.  It is the Arianna bloom from Heartfelt Creations.

First I stamped with clear Versamark onto pink medium weight cardstock.  Then while the ink was still wet, I sprinkled on JudiKins kaleidescope embossing powder.  After heat setting the powder, I used the matching die to cut out the flowers.  I cut the centers from pale orange cardstock.  I wet distressed the flowers and used a stylus to help shape the petals.  Then I assembled the flowers using 3 layers, a brad, and a glitter button.
